While it is all about the images, words also play an important part; especially with regards to SEO. Keywords are important for the Pinterest search function (making it easy for people to find you) and also, for Google rankings. Google sees your Board titles, your image descriptions, how frequently you post, and your popularity – and takes note.

Plan well-thought-out keywords (preferably long-tail) for each of your Pins (use the search bar and analytics to help) and be sure to:

  • Include the keywords in your Board/Pin titles, descriptions and images
  • Include the price in your descriptions (to be included in the gifts section)
  • Have a clear and strong call to action for each Pin
  • Include the URL
  • Keep descriptions to a manageable length, whilst also setting the scene and engaging your readers
  • Add a “#” so as to appear in the “#feed”

You should search for it in the Support Center if you can’t find what you’re searching for in the tools pages, where the responses to FAQs can be found. If something’s not running or your Pinterest account is suspended, this is the first location you can head to. You should email them directly if you do not find the response you are searching for, and the nice people at Pinterest can come back to you.

37. Pin Other People’s Content

Many people consider pinning 80 percent of the material of others and 20 percent of your own content.

As the entire point of Pinterest is to have your OWN material in front of individuals, I don’t agree with this advice.

But, you don’t want your followers or boards to be spammed with your own pins, too.

Plus, if you are part of community boards, to hold the board participation up, you need to post pins from those boards, which influences the engagement score on your own profile. (In my Pinterest Traffic Trifecta lesson, I speak more about this in depth.)

I suggest pinning about 50 percent of your own content and 50 percent of the content of other people.

38. Only Pin High-Quality Content

If it’s your own content or the content of other users, just high-quality content from Pin. It implies in-depth news articles packed with useful details.

40. Use The Wp Tasty Pins Plugin

If you want a fast and simple way to add the pin details without a lot of hassle or if you are not technically inclined, this plugin is useful.

Personally, on my lifestyle blog, I use the WP Delicious Pins plugin (as I have a number of older articles to edit and it’s quicker) and I apply the code to this site manually. Therefore, do what suits for you!

41. Design Long Pins for Your Content

In order to add your own content to Pinterest, you need to design custom images. The better your image, the more engagement it will receive.

Give the reader something to do. If there’s an action they can take, share the next steps and add a link to somewhere useful.

Pinterest also took the extra step to share some super detailed best practices as well:

  • Use correct capitalization and punctuation
  • No hashtags
  • No promotional information (“10% off” or “Two for $9.99!”)
  • No salesy calls to action (“Buy now!”)
  • No references to Pinterest functionality (“Click here to pin!”).

45. Create Pins with text in them

On top of the picture, several pins you can see on Pinterest have a text overlay, a headline or summary referring to the complete article or pin.

Again, you can use a software like Photoshop or Gimp or an online platform like Canva to build anything with a text overlay.

46. Create a “Pin It for Later” link

This cool tip uses Pinterest as a read-it-later blogging method from Peg Fitzpatrick and others.

You should offer followers the option of “read-it-later” while posting a new blog post on social media. They can then pin your blog post to a special “read-it-later” Pinterest board full of posts, offering your community a new, quick way to keep up with your material.

Here’s how we got this done.

  • We have pinned an illustration from the latest blog post after posting a new story.
  • We grabbed the Pin URL.
  • We posted this URL as a way to “Pin It for Later” along with the blog article.

The theory, then, is that at a later time when they would be able to read and connect, the reader would add your Pin to one of their Pinterest boards and return to your content.

With a handful of Google+ messages, we tested this out, adding a “Pin It for Later” connection at the top.

47. Keyword-rich boards for your blog posts

“In particular, keywords are said to be helpful when creating a board of your blog posts, for example on a board of Buffer blog posts, we could use words such as “social networking,” “marketing,” and “Twitter. We were interested in trying this out, so we looked at two board combinations to see what kind of influence the keyword factor has on the total participation and supporters of a board.

48. Include Hashtags in Your Pin Descriptions

On Pinterest, hashtags used to be a huge no-no, but in 2017, Pinterest allowed hashtag material to be searchable.

In each pin description, you can include up to 20 hashtags, but in each pin description, I prefer using 4-5 hashtags, one of which is a brand-specific hashtag.

For starters, to ensure that my Pins show up whenever anyone does a hashtag search for my name, I add #angiegensler to any single Pin description.

Will just want to make sure that the hashtags are important and are really being used by users.

You don’t want to include a lot of hashtags that you’ve developed, because no one is looking for them.

49. Use two-factor identification

Keep under wraps your Pinterest login credentials. Using two-factor authentication is one of the safest techniques.

Pinterest enables you to use an SMS message to set up a verification code. – when you sign up, you will get a new code.

Go to our Pinterest home page to do this, press the three dots on the top right of the toolbar, and a drop-down menu will appear. Click Setup, then click Safe.

Check the box to allow the two-factor authentication code. You will also see what other gadgets are attached to your account, so you can make sure your password isn’t used by anyone you don’t meet.

50. Brand Your Business

As a business owner, one pinterest tip I strongly recommend is making the switch to a business account, if you haven’t already. Businesses get access to much better analytics and the ability to run ads, so it’s definitely worthwhile.

When setting up your business page, it’s important to think about branding. Some ways you should do this include:

  • Use your business name as your Pinterest username
  • Use your brand colors, fonts and other aesthetics for your boards and pins
  • Include your brand URL
  • Use your logo as your profile pic, OR use a high-quality headshot of yourself if you’re the “face” of your business (no pun intended!)
  • When writing your description, briefly talk about who you are, as well as your interests. This section should be short, while still providing a good description of your business and how you solve a pain point for your ideal customer.
